Spring Mountain Vineyard

Spring Mountain Vineyard

Spring Mountain Vineyard is a historic, family-owned, 845 acre wine estate on the eastern slopes of Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain. Its steep and forested terrain allows only 225 acres under vine, creating a scattered vineyard tapestry tucked among redwoods, hillsides and natural beauty.

135 unique vineyard blocks are farmed and represent numerous soil types, microclimates and sun exposures. The fruit from each block is kept separate for fermentation and barrel aging and contributes unique characteristics to the limited-production wines.

The red Bordeaux grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec – make up 85% of the planted acres, although Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Pinot Noir have been carefully chosen and planted where they express the best of mountain terroir, where vines struggle in rocky soils and yields are low. Hallmarks of SMV estate wines are concentrated color and flavor, distinctive varietal intensity, supple tannins, bright acidity and longevity.

A true wine estate with an integrated, sustainable farming and winemaking philosophy, Spring Mountain Vineyard wines reflect the specificity of the site. The quintessential expression of the vineyard is Elivette, a Bordeaux-style wine carefully blended for structure, elegance and aging potential.

The only Napa Valley estate of its kind, Spring Mountain Vineyard is of historical significance. Its vineyards were originally three separate yet contiguous 19th century vineyards: La Perla (1873), Miravalle (1885) and Chevalier (1891). The property has a legacy of beautiful period architecture including a redwood and stone winery, a stone chateau, an antique barn, wine caves and a spectacular Victorian mansion. Beginning in 1992, the three historic vineyards became one wine estate devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon and other French grape varieties.

Spring Mountain Vineyard invites visitors to enjoy the breathtaking hillside terraces, historic caves and heirloom gardens that evoke an era when daily life was slow and tied to the land.
