Xavier Foley

From Marietta Georgia, Double Bassist Xavier Foley was the First Prize winner of the 17th Annual Sphinx Competition Senior Division, and was able to perform as a soloist with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra at the Detroit Symphony Hall on February 23, 2014. Xavier has also placed first in both the International Society of Bassist competition junior division (2009), and the senior division (2011). In 2010, Xavier was chosen as a winner of the Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition. He has made an appearance on National Public Radio while playing on program called "From the Top" hosted by Christopher O’Riley.

During Xavier's early development as a classical bassist, he was accepted into a music program that provided free lessons, scholarships, and early career guidance. This program is known as the “Talent Development Program”, which is also part of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Xavier plays his music for a variety of audiences, including: retirement homes, churches, concert venues, and homeless shelters. He has been given the privilege to play with the Sphinx virtuoso tour in 2010 at Carnegie Hall as well as being able to play two concerts at Carnegie Hall as principle bassist of New York String Seminar Orchestra under the baton of Jaime Laredo in December 2013.

Xavier is not only a performer, but a composer as well. He studies composition with Dr. Eric Sessler and Edgar Meyer at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Xavier Foley is currently perusing a Bachelors of Music Degree at the Curtis Institute of Music. He was taught by Douglas Sommer before his acceptance to the Curtis Institute in 2011, where he is now being taught by Hal Robinson, who is principle bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra; and Edgar Meyer, who is an active double bass recitalist and soloist.
