Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Vocal Arts Series
The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Vocal Arts Series is an annual program that brings top vocal stars from around the world to Festival del Sole stages each season. The series was established with generous gifts from Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem, major benefactors and longtime friends of Festival del Sole.
Pinchas Zukerman is hailed as one of the world’s greatest violinists. His musical genius, prodigious technique and unwavering artistic standards continue to marvel audiences and critics. Zukerman makes his festival debut and performs the Bruch Violin Concerto, one of the most popular violin concertos. Tenor James Valenti, celebrated by the New York Times for his “robust, ardent singing,” rounds out the program with favorite Italian and French opera arias. Alondra de la Parra conducts.
Jeff and Valerie Gargiulo open their vineyard – a two mile-wide swath of land in the heart of Napa Valley’s Oakville appellation with a peak elevation of 600 feet and an astonishing view – for an alfresco dinner featuring wines from Gargiulo and from Vintner’s Collective, a group of maverick winemakers.
This event is sold out. Please contact the festival concierge (707-346-5052 x 2, or via email) for information about limited availability.

Festival del Sole presents its first full-length chamber opera by one of classical music’s most influential figures of the 20th century, the great Leonard Bernstein. A one-act opera, Trouble in Tahiti is Bernstein’s candid portrait of a troubled marriage in the suburbs. Jamie Bernstein, daughter of the late Leonard Bernstein, directs, and Michael Barrett conducts the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra in a performance that artfully mixes the grandeur and melancholy of West Side Story with the jazzy rhythms of On the Town.
Festival del Sole comes to a triumphant close with its annual Opera Gala. This year, the performance features the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra and two leading opera stars – soprano Maria Agresta and tenor Matthew Polenzani – performing songs and arias from some of the most beloved Italian operas. Maestro Carlo Ponti conducts.
