Countertenor Ryan Belongie has recently made his debuts with Lyric Opera of Chicago as the Mago in Rinaldo and Canadian Opera Company as Athamas in Semele. In concert he has appeared with Alabama Symphony, Grant Park Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Music of the Baroque, Seattle Symphony, and St. Louis Symphony.
This season’s engagements include Carmina Burana with San Diego Symphony and Alabama Symphony, Messiah with Lexington Philharmonic, Dettinger Te Deum with Music of the Baroque, and returning to the rosters of San Francisco Opera and Canadian Opera Company. Recent engagements include a Metropolitan Opera workshop, Ottone in l’incoronazione di Poppea for West Edge Opera, St. Matthew Passion with Grand Rapids Symphony and Utah Festival Opera, and St. John Passion and Bach B minor Mass with the American Festival Chorus.
Career highlights include Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Wolf Trap Opera, Didymus in Theodora with Opera Bergen, Norway, and Arsamene in Xerxes with both San Francisco Opera (cover) and Berkeley West Edge Opera.
Belongie is a graduate of the prestigious Merola Opera Program and Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera and has been the recipient of numerous career grants and competition prizes from the Metropolitan Opera among others.
